Ceredigion County Council maintains 60 primary schools. About 60% of the Authority's primary schools have 50 pupils or fewer on roll. In most of these schools, Welsh is the main medium of the life and work of the school.
At secondary level the Authority promotes 7 comprehensive schools, varying in size from 330 pupils to 1400 pupils. Two of these are designated as bilingual schools where a large number of subjects are taught through the medium of Welsh.

UK Holidays in Aberystwyth, Ceredigion, Wales
A seaside town with history, culture, and lovely scenery, Aberystwyth is a picturesque town with much to offer. Visitors will find many inns and restaurants that add still more charm to this unique Welsh setting.
Aberystwyth University
First founded as the University College Wales in 1872, Aberystwyth University adds cultural vibrance to the town. It regularly enrolls twelve thousand students. Its main campus is located on Penglais Hill near the National Library of Wales. The views of Cardigan Bay are quite stunning and its beautiful campus is well worth visiting.
Constitution Hill
Having taken the funicular railway to the top of Constitution Hill, visitors will enjoy the windy hilltop with its spectacular views. The hilltop boasts various amusements that are particularly popular with children such as go-karting. Adults, however, prefer a meal at the Consti Café or to view the town through the hill’s Victorian camera obscura, an old relic that is a famed attraction in its own right.
The Vale of Rheidol Railway
The Vale of Rheidol Railway is a famous Aberystwyth visitor attraction. Old steam locomotives have been restored to take passengers on a one-hour scenic ride on the narrow-gauge railway. The line was originally built in 1902 to guide passengers along a twelve mile stretch of the Rheidol River. Riding on the old train is a popular tourist activity that should not be missed in order to see the beautiful scenery of mid-Wales. Why not visit during the spring half term break or during the longer Easter school holiday.
National Library of Wales
Situated roughly a half mile to the east of town is the renowned National Library of Wales. An internationally acclaimed library, this venue is a major town attraction; it contains more than four million printed materials including many rare volumes. Some of its most famed works are the 1554 Yn Y I hyvyr hwnn, works of Geoffrey Chaucer, and the first Welsh translation of the Bible. Its collection of Welsh materials is extensive. Founded in 1911, the building also provides visitors with astounding hilltop views.
Aberystwyth Arts Centre
The Aberystwyth Arts Centre is one of Wales most active and popular centers for the arts. With spaces for galleries, shops, and cafes, the venue also boasts a theatre, concert hall, cinema, and studio. Touring exhibitions are popularly received and theatre productions are highly anticipated events. Each year, the Aberystwyth Arts Centre hosts roughly eight hundred events that, collectively, are visited by more than 650,000 people.
Ceredigion Museum
The Ceredigion Museum is located in what was once an Edwardian theatre. Noted for its extremely beautiful interior, the museum is a famous Aberystwyth tourist destination. Displays and exhibitions reflect the region’s past. There is also a museum shop that boasts many wares created by local artists and artisans.
