Reasons to Visit Aberystwyth On a Short Half Term Break in Wales.

Once touted as the Biarritz of Wales, the historic market town of Aberystwyth is located in Ceredigion, Wales.

Situated on the west coast of Wales overlooking Cardigan Bay, Aberystwyth is also located at the confluence of the Ystwyth and Rheidol Rivers.

As a famed resort town, Aberystwyth has many attractions that lure many visitors annually on their UK holidays.

Royal Pier

A major Victorian attraction, the Royal Pier of Aberystwyth was originally built in 1865, but storms have necessitated a shorter version of this still-famous pleasure pier.

The pier rests on the coastline of Cardigan Bay and continues to be an important Aberystwyth tourist attraction with its amusement arcade, snooker hall, pub, nightclub, ice cream parlors and other much-visited venues.

Penglais Nature Park

Famed for its spring displays of bluebells, the Penglais Nature Park is situated on the north end of Aberystwyth. The beautiful woodland scenery of the park is a favorite local haven. The park is also the site of an old quarry as evidenced by its rocky slopes.

Additionally, the park is the only UNESCO Man and Biosphere Urban Reserve in Wales. The park is popular with travellers and tourists from across the UK and should be on your list of places to visit during the spring half term break.

Ancient Ruins

Aberystwyth has an ancient past and many visitors are interested in the town's historic ruins. The remains of a Celtic fortress that dates to 700 B.C. attract many tourists to its hilltop that also provides views of the town.

Ruins of the town's medieval castle are among the town's most popular visitor attractions as well.

Aberystwyth Cliff Railway

Aberystwyth is the home of the United Kingdom's longest funicular railway. The Aberystwyth Electric Cliff Railway scales Constitution Hill with passengers riding to reach the hilltop and its great views.

On a clear day, Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales, can be seen. The railway opened in 1896 and continues to be a popular tourist attraction of the town.

Bring the whole family during the school summer holidays or visit during the spring half term and explore all that is great about Wales and the UK.
