Hampshire holidays offer coastal or rural breaks, or in some areas, both.

The New Forest National Park includes the coast line of Hampshire to the west, and provides spectacular views of The Isle of Wight. The New Forest extends inland and crosses into Wiltshire. This National Park is home to free roaming cattle, ponies and deer and is the perfect place to explore on foot, by cycle or horseback. It makes for a very relaxing location for a half term break.

Away from the coast Hampshire is a land of towns and open countryside. The South Downs National Park to the east is rural Hampshire at its best and is an area of outstanding beauty. Market towns and pretty villages lay among rolling countryside just waiting to be explored. This is where Jane Austen lived and a visit to Jane Austen’s house is an interesting insight into the life of the famous novelist.

Wherever you choose to visit in Hampshire the chance to indulge in some shopping is never far away. Southampton and Portsmouth provide all the retail outlets you’d expect of any big city, with West Quay in Southampton being considered the best shopping experience on the south coast. Meanwhile the towns and villages host weekly markets and farmers markets for something a little different.

Hampshire is a county with a diverse mix of history, coastal fun and open countryside, making Hampshire holidays an exciting choice.

Hampshire is just over an hour from London and its excellent transport links make it an easy destination to reach. Hampshire is also an ideal stopover for travels further afield in England.

There are frequent ferries services to the Isle of Wight from Lymington, Southampton and Portsmouth while Southampton is the home port to many famous cruise liners such as the Queen Mary 2. Hampshire Schools Half Term Dates.

Hampshire, on the south coast of England, is an interesting county with a wide variety of attractions. The county included The Isle of Wight until 1890 when the island became a separate county. Although The Isle of Wight is no longer part of Hampshire, it is easy to get to and provides some stunning scenery.

On the coast of Hampshire the famous ports and docklands of Southampton and Portsmouth make great days out during the half term break. Not surprisingly, these areas make much of their maritime history with displays, museums and festivals. Southampton runs an annual boat show and offers opportunities for water sports, but the city is also at the forefront when it comes to education and retail. This historic city is a mix of ancient and modern. Around half of the city’s original walls, built in the late 1300s are still standing and make impressive viewing.

Portsmouth takes celebrating its maritime history even further. Portsmouth Historic Dockyard is an interesting place to visit during the half term dates. Entry includes the Mary Rose Museum, HMS Victory, HMS Warrior 1860 and a harbour tour. Add to this the seafront with its funfair and aquarium and Portsmouth makes the perfect family day out. Travel to nearby Hayling Island for blue flag beaches and nature reserves.

In Romsey, near Southampton, an action-packed family day out can be had at Paulton’s Theme Park and Home of Peppa Pig. This theme park has attractions, rides and shows to suit all ages, making it a good choice in the UK school holidays. With a selection of rollercoasters and thrilling rides alongside play areas and the park’s ‘Water Kingdom’, this theme park has something for all members of the family.
